We recommend optimum financing strategies, including the use of blended finance and Public Private Partnerships (PPP). Our team conducts legal and financial appraisals, supports the design of financing facilities and builds capacities of local financial institutions. We also undertake global studies to support sector dialogue on financing water, sanitation and flood management infrastructure and services.

Expanding Access to Commercial Financing for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene

Rwanda | Water for People

Undertook a WASH sector finance landscaping assessment, to address the knowledge gap required to build the business case for financial institutions to engage in water supply and sanitation lending to small and medium sized enterprises (SME). The aim was to build the local capacity for the mobilisation of the private sector for enhancing WASH service delivery in Rwanda.

The Potential of Public Development Banks for Financing Water and Sanitation

Delivered a scoping study on the role of national Public Development Banks (PDBs) in financing the water sector based on 14 case studies. These highlighted the unique features of financial products and services offered by national PDBs, the role they play in mobilising additional funding and the limitations they face for expanding their activities in the sector. We also underlined how international financial support can stimulate their involvement.

Landscape Assessment of WASH Financing

Indonesia | Oikocredit

Conducted a structural analysis of the WASH sector and regulatory framework. We analysed bottlenecks to financially sustainable services and attractive investment opportunities, and formulated recommendations to Oikocredit and Aqua for All for entering the microfinance market in Indonesia: partnerships to build and services to focus on.
